SPRING LAKE, Mich. (WZZM) -- A West Michigan restaurant targeted by teenagers is getting a lot of support from the community it serves.

Bob Chan, owner of Chan's Restaurant in Spring Lake, says about a year ago he began receiving harassing phone calls.

Two weeks ago, after
...more one of those calls, Chan says someone egged his restaurant. A resident driving by saw it happening and called police.

Officers arrested two teenagers -- one 15 and one 16 -- and one of the boys admitted to making harassing calls.

Chan says since the arrests, the community has rallied around him and his business.

"People that come in to eat and some people just stop by to tell us they support us and they want us to be here," says Chan. "I feel fortune that I live in this community."

Chan's Restaurant has been in Spring Lake since 1972.

In 1979, WZZM 13 crews filmed a special for the Chinese New Year. Chan has a picture of the visit on the wall

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -  The pier along Lake Michigan in Grand Haven is deteriorating and the US Army Corps of Engineers is urging people to be extra cautious.  The problem stems from a lack of funding and is expected to get worse.

The entrance to the pier has warning signs and a
...more memorial with the faces of two young men, Dan Reiss and Andy Fox.

"I just went through Mothers Day yesterday without my son.  It has been 8 years, but it still hurts.  I don't want anyone else to lose a loved one unnecessarily," says Vicki Cech, Andy's mother.

The US Army Corps of Engineers says the tale of caution has never been more important because much of the pier is deteriorating.

"There's a lot of slipping or tripping hazards, cracks, little holes in the concrete," says Tom O'Bryan with the Lake Michigan Army Corp of Engineers.

There are additional safety measures on the pier.  Every 100 feet is a life ring that is connected to the 911 Center.
