Wal-Mart says it has pulled a batch of powdered infant formula from stores nationwide after a newborn Missouri boy became gravely ill with a suspected infection and died after being taken off life support.
ZEELAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- In August, Zeeland Public Schools unveiled a district-wide program to provide iPads for students. 1,900 high school students received the devices as part of a new curriculum.
Eventually, the plan will roll out to the rest of the district. The move has been...more met with praise and national attention, but there is at least one parent concerned about student safety.
Photographer and studio owner David DeJonge says he sees the iPads as an advanced, varied and exciting learning tool but is concerned about a lack of safety precautions. He has children enrolled at the middle school level, who will receive the technology within the year.
"iPads could be great," he said. "But with that iPad we need to have some protection in line, so that parents can do their job as a parent and provide adequate tools for learning."

ZEELAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Hundreds of elementary school students in Zeeland are now part of an effort to set a world a record.
More than 600 students and teachers at Woodbridge Elementary did jumping jacks non-stop for one minute Tuesday.
The school hopes to join others...more internationally in an effort to set a world record of 20,000 people doing jumping jacks for one minute, over a 24 hour period.
It's also part of a program to reduce childhood obesity.
"It's nice because it promotes exercise and fitness for our young people as well," said Zeeland Public Schools Superintendent David Barry.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Zeeland Township teenager is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his friend.
On Friday afternoon, an Ottawa County jury found Joshua Hambley, 19, guilty of first-degree murder in the death of John Dargis. Hambley...more beat and stabbed Dargis to death last February, then buried his friend's body behind his mother's mobile home.
Hambley's trial began earlier this week. Prosecutors argued Hambley killed Dargis out of jealousy over a girl both teenagers knew. They say Hambley planned the murder for days.
Defense attorneys admitted Hambley killed his friend, but argued the slaying was not premeditated.
Because of the first-degree murder conviction, Hambley will face a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

ZEELAND, Mich. (AP/WZZM) -- This might boost enrollment: Students in a western Michigan school district are getting iPads.
Zeeland Public Schools in Ottawa County is paying for the popular high-tech tablets with money from a 2010 bond sale. About 1,900 High school students are getting iPads before...more school starts, while kids in middle school must wait until winter, which will bring that number to about 3,100.
"We at Zeeland value our education but our goal really is to get the kids ready for the next step after high school, which is 21st century," said Zeeland West Principal Colleen Johnson.
Zeeland officials say they want students to use the Apple product to create, collaborate and think critically in the classroom. Students can take the iPad home for personal use but not during the summer.

ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police say the driver killed in a Zeeland Township crash on Monday morning failed to stop at a stop sign before colliding with an SUV.
Deputies say the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix was southbound on 56th Avenue and failed to stop at the intersection with Adams...more Street. His car collided with a Chevy Suburban, then caught fire. A passerby put out the fire with an extinguisher.
Ottawa County deputies are not yet releasing the name of the driver, a 41-year-old man from Grand Rapids. The four women in his car were also from Grand Rapids. One woman is in critical condition at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, while the three other women are in serious condition. Investigators say the three women in the car's back seat were not wearing seat belts.
A Hudsonville woman and her three children were in the SUV. They suffered minor injuries, and were treated and released from an area hospital. Police say everyone in the Suburban was either seat belted
